and old' the world over for many years. Piñatas are always a smash hit!
A piñata is made from papier-maché, filled with sweets, balloons and small
toys.
The piñata
is hung by a rope from a tree or suitable point. Everyone takes turns
while blindfolded to hit the piñata with a stick until it cracks open. Once the piñata is broken
open, everyone shares the treats.
What is a Piñata ?
Piñata is a traditional party game in South, Central and North America, dating
back many centuries. Piñatas (pronounced pin-yah-tars) are now popular all over the world
for almost any occasion.
The game is to take turns (while blindfolded) to hit the piñata with stick to break it open. The piñata is suspended from a rope and once you have succeeded in breaking it open, the piñata will release it's contents and then it's a mad dash for everyone to see how many goodies they can pick up.
Ordering Piñatas

How
to play ?
The game must always be played under ADULT SUPERVISION!!!
Whether you are hosting a children's or adult party, the piñata game is bound to be the highlight of the party. Traditionally,
it is the "main feature" of a party.
1. Checklist to make sure you have everything you'll need to play the
game.
-
A piece of strong rope, string or cord.
-
A place to hang the piñata (tree branch, a basketball hoop),
-
Piñata party
fillers such as lollies, sweets, candy, favors and large confetti
-
Piñata buster stick
-
Blindfolds.
2. Fill the piñata with the goodies before everyone arrives as a surprise!
3. Place the piñata somewhere where it is the centrepiece, then when you are
ready to play hang it in the designated place.
4. Form the children in a line, starting with the smallest one all the way to the tallest one.
If a child is very young, you won't need to blindfold him/her. Traditionally, children over 3 years old are blindfolded, then spun around a few times, provided with the piñata buster stick and let loose to hit the piñata.
5. For safety, make sure that all the other children are kept away (a 15' radius is recommended) and that the child has completely ceased to hit the piñata before you allow the other children to go grab the goodies spilled on floor.
6. Allow each child to hit the piñata at least a couple of times before you move on to the next child.
To make the game more fun, the piñata must be swung up and down, and guests must be encouraged to misdirect the piñata hitter (if the piñata is down, tell the hitter the piñata is up, etc.).
You may also want to throw candy with your hands while the piñata is being hit. Make sure that all children have gotten some candy at the end of the game.
How
to fill Piñatas
All piñatas come with a small concealed opening marked with a sticker
"OPEN PRESS HERE".
Gently press down on this spot through the tissue paper. This spot will usually give to gentle pressure. If you have any trouble opening the tab, using a sharp box cutter or scissors, cut a U shaped opening on this spot.
Lift the lid towards you and fill the opening with sweets or party favors. Wrapped
lollies or sweets are recommended if the game is to be held outdoors.
Count the number of participants and fill with roughly a handful for each.
Piñata History
Piñatas have been used for hundreds of years in Latin America to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays and Christmas. The exact origin of the piñata is disputed but many agree it originated in Europe, perhaps in ancient times. Italy, Spain, Portugal and Greece claim its origin. It is said that it started simply as a painted clay pot decorated with
colourful paper and filled with candy treats and coins. The traditional star-shaped piñata was probably a part of early Christmas Posadas representing the Star of Bethlehem that guided worshippers in their search for refuge.
The tradition spread to the New World and flourished. Artisans created animal and other designs to delight children at festivities and provide an entertaining activity for young and old party-goers alike. Although breaking a piñata at children's parties is very much a tradition among Hispanics, the fun game has spread throughout the entire United States. It has replaced the game of pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey as the highlight of any party. Our pull-piñata is designed for toddlers and for folks sensitive to any display of aggressive play.
Today, piñatas are not only popular for party games, they serve as colourful decorations,
centrepieces and many other fun uses.
